and now, for something different
i pulled a card for today but then i was haunted by the thought that i just wanted to share with you all what i am reading and listening to and playing, though maybe not in that order.
julien baker has a new album called little oblivions and it is pretty much all i have listened to for the past five days. my favorite songs so far are “faith healer” and “bloodshot” and “repeat.”
hades is a game about saying “fuck you” to your dad. it is also a game about solving a family mystery. it is also, i suppose, a game about fighting your way out of the underworld. also, you can fish! and romance people! (tragically you cannot romance dionysus.) i have been playing a lot of this game lately. it’s so good. it’s so good!! if you, like me, were a huge greek myth nerd as a kid, probably you will like this.
reading physical books has been hard during the pandemic (notable exceptions: you were born for this by chani nicholas, an astrology book, and the fixed stars by molly wizenberg, not an astrology book, both of which i read in one sitting) but i finally picked up the body keeps the score by bessel van der kolk again and i’m glad. it can be a hard read at times, because trauma, but it’s super interesting.
i have also been listening to danny lavery’s something that may shock and discredit you, which is just a delight. there was a bit where byron realizes he’s 37 and has a crisis about it that is [chef’s kiss].
the only things i have really been watching are critical role and dimension 20, because i love dungeons & dragons so much.
okay. thanks for indulging me, my darlings. here is a card for this week:
sometimes, after the rush that is aries season, taurus season - which began when the sun entered taurus on april 19 - can sometimes feel like getting stuck. this can be frustrating, especially if you have any planets or points in aries, like i do. did i nearly rage-cry at needing to unexpectedly wait half an hour at the store this week? yes. yes, i did. and what helped, as i rage-walked home afterward, was stopping, and pausing, and noticing some blooms where none had been before. darlings, when we are stuck, sometimes we need to lean in to that feeling, and see what we can notice around us, as the hanged man reminds us. be well this week.
